Skunk Smell Removal

If you are reading this, I’m sorry – because that most likely means you or someone you know has been sprayed by a skunk. While you try to get rid of the smell, we can take care of the skunk removal. Time is of the essence. Skunk smell removal will not be easy, but here are some ways you can try and get rid of the smell.

Home

Avoid going inside your house after being sprayed. Going inside will only carry the smell and embed itself on anything it can. If you did already go inside, grab some vinegar and fans. First, open up the windows to allow the smell to naturally leave. Turn on some fans to help drive out that smell. Next, you’ll want to boil a pot of vinegar to absorb the smell in the house. You can also leave small bowls of vinegar around, as well. Once you remove the vinegar, the skunk smell should be gone.

People

Your first instinct may be to run and jump into a bathtub full of tomato juice, right? This is one of the biggest myths when it comes to removing skunk smell off of you. Instead of removing the smell, it mixes with the juice to create a tomato/skunk concoction. What you should be reaching for is 3% hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and detergent. Mix together, and let it sit on the sprayed spot for a few minutes – followed by a shower. Then after that, take another shower. Basically, keep showering until you can’t smell it anymore. There is a skunk-odor removing spray if the smell is still lingering after several washes.

Clothes

Your clothes should be able to wash out the smell with a few washes. If you want to make sure you get the smell out, soak it in the mixture mentioned above or the less harsh alternative of vinegar. If possible, make sure you air dry your clothes after putting it through the wash. After the skunk is gone, of course.
